The WD My Passport Studio comes with three connector cables: Firewire 800, Firewire 400, and USB. When I'm using the Dell workstation, I use the Firewire 400 cable. 3) I need a hard drive that can utilize the ultra-fast Firewire 800 on my MacBook Pro.
Before the recent release of a small number of USB 3.0-capable external hard drives, we saw very little progress being made in USB storage devices. Over the last few years drives increased in capacity, we saw more people moving to 2.5-inch external hard drives over bulky 3.5-inch ones, and there was a growth in the number of color options, but little other progress was made. Maybe a hard drive would have Firewire in addition to USB 2.0, maybe it would be a few millimeters shorter than the competition, or it might include some sort of backup software, but price remained the best way to choose from one or another.
So I've had my WD Passport for two days now. Day 1, no issues. Day 2 is why I'm here. If you are not familiar, it is a 1TB portable external that only comes with an 18' usb cord (no external power). I am running Windows 7 64bit Home Premium on a HP Pavilion dv9720us laptop. When I first plugged it in, everything worked as advertised. WD Backup is very useful backup software for novice users. Dong Ngo The My Passport Edge is designed for Windows (there's a Mac version called, cleverly enough, My Passport Edge for Mac) and in. How To Install Wd Passport
Western Digital (WD) recently released the My Passport Studio—it has one feature that other external hard drives don’t: an electronic ink display. This display shows important information about the hard drive (capacity, fill level, security status, and a label) even when it’s not plugged in (electronic ink only requires power when it has to be changed so you have a persistent label whether the drive is on or off). It’s not a ton of information, but if you have a few drives on your desk you’ll know which one you need to take with you, as well as if you’ll have enough free storage available. WD’s improvement didn’t end with the electronic ink label either. This drive includes WD’s SmartWare software pre-loaded which, unlike most included software, you’ll actually want to install. Using SmartWare you can customize the label on your hard drive, configure the 256-bit hardware encryption, backup your computer, restore files (complete with versioning), run drive diagnostics, and more. It’s an easy-to-use software that let’s users get the most out of their hard drive.

How does it work?
It’s an external hard drive, and it works just as you’d expect. This one needed to be formatted out of the box, but after that the performance was on par with a 2.5-inch USB hard drive. I didn’t expect that I would like the SmartWare software, but after I changed the label on my hard drive and took some of the other features for a spin I was sold. Fallen: a2p protocol 1 0. I won’t be using the software as my full-time backup tool but it seems robust enough for a casual user that just wanted to save some important images, videos, and documents. Plus the version history and easy-to-setup encryption are both handy features.
